Julie Fenster

Fenster is an award-winning historian with a knack for finding the little-known story and telling it in a lively and compelling way.  With JEFFERSON’S AMERICA:  The President, The Purchase and the Explorers Who Transformed a Nation (Crown Publishing/Penguin Random House, May 2016, paperback May 2017), she once again tells a riveting tale of Jefferson’s role in promoting exploration, and the courageous men who set out to conquer the West.

In January 2006, she and co-author Douglas Brinkley released Parish Priest, a biography of  the founder of the Knights of Columbus. In 2009, she published a biography of Franklin D. Roosevelt’s early political advisor, Louis Howe, titled FDR’s Shadow: Louis Howe, the Force that Shaped Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt. She is also the author of The Case of Abraham Lincoln, Ether Day and co-author of Debbie Wasserman Schultz’s book For the Next Generation: A Wake-Up Call to Solving Our Nation’s Problems.

A regular contributor to American Heritage, Fenster has also written for The New York Times and the Los Angeles Times. She lives in Syracuse, New York.  She lives in upstate New York.
