Elizabeth Reid Boyd

“Eliza Redgold” is a natural pen name in its origin. It is based upon the old, Gaelic meaning of her real name, Dr. Elizabeth Reid Boyd — according to English folklore, if you help a fairy, you will be rewarded with red gold. “Eliza Redgold” is also a natural pen name in its feel, elegant and fierce like her writing. “Writing makes me braver,” she says. By day a mild-mannered university lecturer with a PhD, by night Eliza is an unfettered writer of historical fiction and contemporary romance novels.

Her historical novel NAKED (St. Martin’s Press) is an original, romantic retelling of the Lady Godiva story. After Godiva begged her husband Lord Leofric of Mercia to lift a high tax on her people, who would starve if forced to pay, Lord Leofric demanded a forfeit: that Godiva ride naked on horseback through the town. So, Lady Gonakeddiva famously rode naked through the streets of Coventry, covered only by her long, flowing hair. A tale of legendary courage and extraordinary passion, NAKED brings an epic story a new voice.

Redgold also has two Harlequin Historical romance novels, both set in Victorian London. ENTICING BENEDICT COLE tells the story of painter Benedict Cole and Lady “Cameo” Catherine Mary St. Clair — who Benedict mistakes for a model. Benedict knows better than to let intimacy interfere with his work, yet he can’t quell his fascination for the mysterious Cameo. In PLAYING THE DUKE’S MISTRESS, Duke Darius Carlyle pursues actress Calista Fairmont’s hand in marriage to prove that all actresses are title-hunters.

Redgold is currently working with her daughter Jessica Moncrieff-Boyd on a natural beauty book, SECRETS OF MINDFUL BEAUTY, to be published by Skyhorse Publishing in early 2017.

As Dr. Reid Boyd, Eliza has presented academic papers on women and romance and is a contributor to the forthcoming Encyclopedia of Romance Fiction. As a non-fiction author, she is co-author of Body Talk: a Power Guide for Girls and Stay-at-Home Mothers: Dialogues and Debates.

She was born in Irvine, Scotland on Marymass Day and currently lives in Australia.
